Stage one of harbour project completed

Just back from working on the harbour project at Nassau is Rarotonga based machine contractor Terepai Ariihee who conducted the excavation work.
Ariihee told the Herald on Wednesday it took 3 months to complete stage one, which was the blasting and excavating. Stage two which is concreting will take place next year after tenders are let.
Government supplied the machinery and he had seven workers helping with the excavating, 2 from Nassau, 2 from Rarotonga and three from Pukapuka.
Arihee said the harbour passage is 80m long and 18-20m wide. It is 3m deep. The passage is suitable for the barge but not visiting yachts.
His wife Meme accompanied him and he said he thoroughly enjoyed the experience of living and working on Nassau. He also took the photos which he kindly allowed the Herald to use.
