Weightlifting: third placing for Luisa

The Cook Islands was represented at the 2009 Commonwealth Senior and Junior Weightlifting Championships held in Penang, Malaysia from 19-23 October, by Luisa Peters and Sirla Pera.
Paul Coffa of the Oceania Weightlifting Federation reports that 16 yr old Peters who competed in the Women’s 75 plus KG class, recorded a snatch of 58kg and a clean & jerk of 74kg for a total of 132kg placing her fifth in the senior group and third in the junior group.
The winner in the senior group was from India and she lifted a total of 234kg. The winner in the junior group was from Niue and she lifted a total of 215kg.
17 yr old Sirla Pera competed in the Men’s 85kg class and he lifted 101kg in the snatch. However, he did not record any lift in the clean & jerk and no reason was given by Coffa.
