No water in Ruaau forces resident to leave!
Enough’s enough, I’m outta here this week,” said a very disgruntled and angry Ruaau resident who has purchased a one way ticket out of the Cook Islands after spending 4 weeks without hardly any water. “The way we, the residents in Ruaau or Arorangi for that matter have been treated by the Water Works Division of MOIP, is criminal and I’ve had enough.”
“I’ve hardly had any water for 4 weeks because of upgrades to the piping system which is supposed to make it better for us but so far, there’s been nothing. I have to wait until 11.00pm in the evenings before I get a trickle of water,” claimed the resident who wishes to remain anonymous. “For the rest of the day, my water is turned off. After a busy hot stinking day, you really look forward to coming home and having a shower but our situation in Ruaau has gone worse and is well and truly beyond a joke,” said the resident.
“I know I’m not the only one affected and there are many others as well but where do you draw the line when you look at the sheer incompetence by government and its workers in not being able to fix what should be a given right to access to water in this day and age.”
“Only the other night, I watched Sam Napa on TV who offered a simple solution which in my view is cost effective, benefits the village and we actually get good water and hopefully water pressure. Are these idiots in government not listening? To make things worse, I found out the other day that the new water pipe system installed in Arorangi was leaking so MOIP had to dig where the leaks were occurring after only just sealing the road. You only have to look at the bare spots with water marks on the newly sealed roads to see what I’m talking about.”
“I know Smiley Heather has tried his best to push to improve the water situation but he no longer has my vote because he represents a government that has lost sight of one of the most essential basic needs for human life, water! I mean can you believe this is happening today especially when we have a so called 200 million dollar plus national budget and we can’t even provide adequate water supply. This is absolutely ridiculous and that’s it for me.”
“I’ve spent a lot of money upgrading my house but for what, only to find there’s no water. With the slowing down of our economy you value the limited luxuries remaining such as water but when a government cannot provide even that, there is definitely something wrong. I’m saddened to leave but what choice do I have, my family have to survive somehow.”
