Political whispers

Negotiating “Sir to Sir”
A spokesperson for the minority government of Jim Marurai whispers that in recent negotiations between Sir Terepai for the Demos and Sir Geoffrey Henry for the CIP over possible power sharing and the allocation of portfolios, Sir Terepai wanted to be PM and Finance Minister but would provide for CIP wishes through the Budget. The CIP agreed to Sir Terepai being PM but wanted the Finance portfolio. Sir Terepai would not budge and Sir Geoffrey could not get the whole of caucus to agree. The spokesperson says it was opposed by Norman George, Nandi Glassie and Tom Marsters. It seems they did not wish to legitimize the re-appointment of Sir Terepai said the spokesperson.
Snap decisions at the top, anger the grassroots
Those close to the recent action whisper that when Demo Minister Aunty Mau went to attend a meeting at Sir Terepai’s office her electorate committee advised her to go and listen only. However, the committee later received word that Aunty Mau had resigned her portfolios in support of Sir Terepai. This upset the committee.Sir Terepai has six days to go
Sir Terepai has 10 working days to vacate his office. With that notice having been given on 24 December 2009, Sir Terepai and his staff have until 12 January 2010 to vacate the office.
