QR needs PM’s advice to call parliament
At a press conference held at his office on Tuesday afternoon the PM advised he had received a copy of the legal opinion given by the NZ constitutional lawyer Alex Frame to the Solicitor General on the question of whether under our constitution the QR could call parliament at his own discretion without the advice of the PM.
The PM said following the press conference he was to visit the QR to discuss the legal opinion with him and that after this, the opinion would be released so it could be made public.
The PM confirmed it was six pages long and was the latest copy in a series of exchanges between Alex Frame and the Solicitor General.
The PM said the opinion confirmed the view that the QR could not call parliament except on his advice. More details will follow.
