Suspension of Financial Secretary being considered

The Herald has been advised that government is considering suspending Financial Secretary Sholan Ivaiti while he is subject to Audit Office investigation over the his actions and involvement in the proposal to purchase the Toa fuel farm.
The Herald was advised on Tuesday following Cabinet that CIIC CEO John Tini was suspended during his Audit Office investigation and to be consistent, government was of the view that the Financial Secretary should also be suspended. However, that is up to The Public Service Commissioner Navy Epati who is currently overseas.
Government was proposing to discuss this matter with the PSC when he returns.
As to who might fill the temporary role of interim Secretary for Finance should the PSC decide to suspend Ivaiti, government had considered two people who might be suitable.
The Financial Secretary’s contract is up in February 2010.
