Jelly fish in Muri lagoon

Visitors should be alert to jelly fish while swimming in Muri lagoon. On Sunday a female visitor was stung by a jelly fish while swimming in Muri lagoon. Another visitor advised the woman that he had found uric acid from urine effective. The woman’s husband applied his urine to the area on her arm where she had been stung and her pain was relieved. Later, another visitor reported seeing four blue jelly fish in the lagoon. A local man said it was the first time in 3 years he had heard of jelly fish in the lagoon. The Ministry for Marine says their staff have not had any recent encounters with jelly fish during their lagoon monitoring each month but says the sea currents and warmer weather has probably given rise to jelly fish in the lagoon. While urine and also vinegar may have some benefit as well as hot water, these applications should only be considered a front line treatment and medical attention should be sought.
