11F lashes Penrhyn
While Aitutaki suffered extensive damage to buildings and its people are now affected by post traumatic stress, for now they have some respite.
However, for the people of Penrhyn, there’s been no let up or respite from Mother Nature. Less than one month after Cyclone Nisha slammed into Penrhyn, the tropical depression known as 11F, gave the place a lashing.
The report to the Minister of MOIP, Hon William Heather Jnr regarding the damage caused to buildings on Penrhyn as a result of Tropical Depression 11F, shows an extensive amount of damage caused.
Seventeen occupied buildings in Omoka were affected, all them with their roofing iron blown off to some extent.
Buildings affected included a classroom (three quarters of the roof gone); the Catholic Church (three quarters of the roof gone); and Soatini Hall (12 roofing iron sheets lost).
Other damage reported ranged from roofing iron loss of 42 sheets blown off to lesser damage of 6 sheets blown off. However, there is a glimmer of good news with no damage to the village of Te Tautua.
The report was made by Police Commissioner, Maara Tetava dated Monday 22 February 2010 to the Minister.
