Matavera Demos support Cassey
The following media release from the Democratic Party was issued on Tuesday 23 March 2010
“On the advice of the Matavera Democratic Party Puna Executive and supporters, Matavera MP Cassey Eggelton has accepted the 6th post of Cabinet Minister. The swearing in will be this afternoon (Tuesday) at the residence of the Queen’s Representative at 4.30pm.
Mrs Eggelton is overwhelmed by the support she has received and notes “It hasn’t been easy, the committee and I have deliberated over this for many days now. The pros and cons-but Matavera is firm in their position-I have been instructed –it is time to move forward and take action and get things done.”
Cassey accepting the p[ost is bitter sweet. Ties with the Democratic Party and Executive are strained while seeking endorsement for this move. “Let me state now-I am and will aleays relain a Democratic Party member. I understand the situation, and am saddened it has come to this. I have received phone calls, and met with many people and they have given me lots of words of encouragement even within the executive and caucus-I hope we can resolve the party’s differences quickly and amicably-we have an election to win.”
“I am humbled to have been given this opportunity and am honoured that the Prime Minister wishes me to be part of his team. I am looking forward to the challenges that will be presented and doing what’s best for our people and our nation.”
MP Cassey Eggelton will be the 6th minister and only female cabinet member in the current line up.
It is not known when MP Eggelton will start, and is waiting instruction from Prime Minister Jim Marurai.
