Cassey Eggelton – A strategic appointment

A week in politics can surely have defining moments to maintain the integrity and revive the confidence of governing. Last Wednesday, the Democratic Party held a meeting of all parties searching for resolve and solidarity in the wake of different strokes being aired in the public. The Demo factions met in good spirits and the contentions of seeking for peace and harmony was not only seen as foremost but equally uncompromising. Chairing the meeting was the Party President who at the end of the two hours meeting held the grip of what was tabled to be highly considered by the meeting to resolve the differences, but only to lose the plot of securing peace and building harmony over personal differences which cost the ‘peace accord’.
The Cabinet ministers however took the good spirits of the meeting into another realm by taking a reality check of their positions and how best could they offer a truce. Hon. Eggelton was highly considered for a cabinet post after the resignations of the recent Maoate supporters back in December 2009, where Hon Wigmore made the residence call to the Matavera ‘white house’. According to Wigmore, ‘the demo caucus not only has the benefit of women MP’s but women of strong aspirations with good management skills worthy of leadership, and we were after her consent to be appointed the next woman in cabinet’. The new line up of ministers back in December recognized the importance of gender representation and the thought of not having a woman in Cabinet according to Wigmore is ‘not balanced’. However due to party pressure from the leader of the party, her non approval laid very much respected.
Matavera supporters were however instrumental at last weeks Demo’s meeting to secure the peace accord even to the point of intervening on the call for a closing prayer of the meeting. This signal was registered by the Cabinet ministers and key advisors to forge a second approach for the much delighted Matavera MP. While in the wriggling of seeking the support of the demo party hierarchy, Cassey was set on taking the command advice of her committee and stronghold of supporters.
In appointing Cassey to his recent line up of ministers, the Prime Minister reiterated of her accepting the post as forward thinking to a better future and taking up the challenge of building new paths. This is surely the fresh voice in which the Prime Minister is promoting in the line of ministers appointed under his command.
