Water polo junior rep has Cook Islands connections

Thomas Kingsmill is a young man of Cook Islands heritage who is making a name for himself in the grueling, explosive and physically demanding sport of water polo.
He is the son of Rosemary-Reu Reu-McQuarie, the daughter of Meme McQuarie. As such he is the great grandson of Makea Nui Teremoana.
Thomas is in Rarotonga on holiday but trains hard every day at Tikioki lagoon.
He stands nearly six feet four and maintains a high level of fitness. In 2009 Thomas was a member of the New Zealand under 15 boys water polo team. That team won the Trans Tasman U15 Shield series and the Trans Tasman U15 Challenge Cup. This year Thomas is in the NZ squad and is in the U16A and U18B teams at his club, North Harbour Water Polo Club.
A student at Kirstin School in Albany he was named water polo player of the year in 2009. Coming through the sport as a youngster he has won numerous trophies and medals. At North Harbour his position is goalie.
Two fellow club members Anton Sunde and Ben McDonald- Sporle are on holiday with Thomas. Both are top juniors with trials for the NZ U15 water polo team.
Thomas has a busy year ahead with the Secondary Schools Champs in Wellington in April, the Pan Pac Tournament in Auckland in July where over 100 clubs, some from overseas, will compete and the U16 Champs in Christchurch in October.
Water polo takes place in a pool about 2m deep and 25m long. There are 14 in each team with 7 in the pool at one time. Players can be subbed at any time. The game is played in 7 minute quarters. Ben plays left driver position and Anton, right wing.
