The Cook Islands became a bit tastier Friday night
More than 100 people attended the launch of Sue Carruthers’ new cookbook, South Seas Cuisine, at Tamarind House, the restaurant Carruthers owns with her partner Robbie Brown.
The cookbook, the long-waited follow-up to Carruthers’ 1993 effort, The Tropical Garden Cookbook, is designed to be both portable and practical. It appeals to a cross-section of kitchen skill levels and contains recipes that feature local ingredients.
Judging by the number of people lined up to have Carruthers sign their copies, the book’s popularity is already guaranteed.
“It was very successful,” Carruthers said of the event. “Nice weather, nice people: everybody seemed to enjoy themselves. And we sold heaps of books.”
From what Carruthers heard over the weekend, the cookbook is already been given several test runs in local kitchens. A group has been formed with the intent of trying out all the recipes, while there also came word of a husband serving up one of the dishes to his wife as a Mother’s Day meal.
“I’ve had very good feedback,” Carruthers said.
South Seas Cuisine can be purchased at Tamarind House and The Art Gallery, and will soon be available at Bounty Books, Polynesian Duty Free and the Beachcomber Gallery.
