HERALD WEEKLY ISSUE 513: 26 May 2010

Former All Black pays a visit

Dropping by Pitt Media Group on Monday afternoon for interviews with Cook Islands Television and the Herald was former All Black flanker, Highlanders and Otago rep, Josh Kronfeld who is in Rarotonga as guest speaker for the annual CISNOC Sports Awards function at the Aroa Nui Hall on Tuesday night.
With Josh were his wife Bronwyn and 18 month old son Cassius (he loves stairs). While Josh has visited Rarotonga several times, this is Bronwyn’s first visit.
These days, Josh said he is a “home” dad in Auckland. He does a bit of physio, some coaching and also TV presenting. Bronwyn operates her own hair dressing business employing 27 staff.
Josh revealed he had been asked several times previously by David Bridge of Air NZ to be a speaker at the awards but has been unable until now.
He enjoys Rarotonga because it’s typically Polynesian-relaxed, friendly and at this time of year, warm. Josh looks fit and in good shape but admits to old injuries coming back to haunt him. After all he’s had something like 8 operations on his knee.
At the awards he intended to cover matters such as goal setting, getting focused, balancing life outside of sport and creating harmony with things outside of sport.
He will also advise local sportspeople to be proud of who they are, where they come from and what they do.
As to that controversial, costly, covered stadium in Dunedin being readied for the World Rugby Cup next year, Josh says as it takes shape people are beginning to change their attitude to it. Now they can see something actually happening. And as to who will win the World Cup? He says South Africa will be hard to beat. They have timed their preparation to be at their best.
Josh and his family return to Auckland on Saturday.
