Fiji may miss Pacific Cup netball
The Fiji netball coach Una Rokoura says they will have to pay for the airfares to travel to the Pacific Cup by today or face the possibility of missing out. The team, which is scheduled to fly out to Rarotonga this weekend, is yet to pay their fares because of the non-availability of funds. She says the team need to fly out this weekend or risk not being able to play in the Pacific Cup and in the process lose out on a chance to play at next year’s World Cup in Singapore. She said the ticket booking would become null and void if not paid by today and she is now turning to the business community and the community for support by coming up with the $30,000 needed to pay the airfares. The former Fiji national rep said while the players were continuing with training and the team bond was excellent, the truth remained about the side having no money.
President of the Cook Islands Netball Association Patsy Hockin said as of today she has not received any word from Fiji with regards to their pulling out of the series. In the meantime, the Cook Islands national side will arrive this weekend. Tickets for the event are being sold at Tourism Cook Islands from 10am-2pm, and at the Vonnias stores. Costs are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12-years and under. A 3 day concession ticket for adults is also on sale at the cost of $25.
