Former MP seeks run off in Matavera

Former Democratic Party MP for Matavera and Minister of the Crown, Peri Vaevae Pari told Pitt Media Group on Monday morning he is keen to represent the Democratic Party in the upcoming election and is seeking a run off for selection against sitting MP Cassey Eggelton. Pare held a public meeting at his home on 10 June after he had been approached to stand. On the 11 June he notified Party President Sean Willis of his wish to stand and sought a run off for the candidacy. He did not receive a response and wrote to the Chair of the Matavera Committee on 17 June regarding the run off. He received no response. Vice Chair of the Matavera Committee Timoti Tangiruaine advised Pitt Media Group he and the Chair of the Committee attended the meeting at Pare’s place on 10 June and at that meeting explained to Pare that back in January, the Committee had been selected and Eggelton nominated and confirmed as candidate. He said Pare’s letter was considered at a meeting last week and the Committee will be informing Pare of its decision to stay with Eggelton however, he thinks Pare is already aware this is the case.
