and Planning (MOIP)
This session re-looks at the scope of
problems and issues; communicating the
challenges, and looking at emerging
trends (waste to energy/reduction at
source/increase in waste generation). Specific areas of focus addressed in this session include:
Options for Waste Management - Action Plan
Waste Collection
Institutional/Regulatory Framework
Private Sector Partnerships
Knowledge Dissemination - awareness creation
9:40am - 10:00am Waste Management Initiatives –
A Private Sector Perspective
Presenter: Cook Islands Recycling
This session provides a private sector
experience in addressing waste
management, and is aimed at leading to
further discussions in the breakout
groups on what should be done; the
roles and responsibilities and possible
recommendations.
10:00am - 10:10am Light Refreshments
10:10am - 10:15am Snapshot of Sanitation
(Setting the ‘Liquid’ Scene)
This short session will provide
participants with an overview of
sanitation and brief familiarization
of the various sewerage initiatives in the
Cook Islands.
10:15am - 10:55am Sanitation Issues and Options - Making
Sanitation Everybody’s Business
Presenter: Ministry of Health and
Ministry of Marine Resources
This session re-looks at the scope of
problem and issues; communicating the
challenges,technology options and
looking at emerging trends. Specific
areas of focus addressed in this
session include:
Options for Disposal
Increased pollution and lagoon health
Regulator and Institutional arrangements
Private Sector Partnerships
10:55am - 11:40am Plenary Session: Sanitation
Initiatives - Community Perspective
Facilitator: Tekao Herrmann
(EU Muri Project)
This session provides community
experiences in addressing sanitation.
The session is aimed atleading to
further discussions in the breakout
groups on what should be done; the
roles and responsibilities and
possible recommendations within
the context that sanitation can be
perceived both as a problem and as
an opportunity for both
government, communities and
business.

Action Framework (NESAF) -

A presentation on the
recommendations, including
priorities from the NESAF Forum
held 20 - 22 July 2010.
