$12,000 raised for handball
At the fundraising dinner on Saturday at the Hospitality Training Centre in Turangi $12,000 was raised for the Cook Islands Junior men Handball team to the Youth Olympics in Singapore.
Ticket sales raised $7,500 and $4,500 was raised from an auction of various items including black pearls, and art.
The fundraising dinner was a complete sell out and guests enjoyed a five course dinner while being attended to by the team members.
The Cook Islands team has the distinction of also representing OCEANIA.
The funds raised will be put to good use and team management extends grateful thanks to all supporters and parents. (See Appreciation notice in this issue.
The team departed for Singapore on Tuesday afternoon and the Herald extends its best wishes to the team for a sucessful performance.
