No seats change hands in 9 outer island electorates after final count

The final count in 9 outer island electorates was announced by the Chief Electoral Officer at 9.08pm on Tuesday evening.
Election night outcomes were confirmed and no seats changed hands (see chart below).
The close finishes were Tamarua in Mangaia with Pukeiti Pukeiti-CIP 31 and Matapo – Demos 30. In Vaipae in Aitutaki, Mona Ioane (CIP) ended with 163 votes to Kete Ioane’s (Demos) 159.
Biggest winner was outgoing PM Jim Marurai in Ivirua, Mangaia with 69 and Moe Lucre (CIP) with 5 votes.
The highest turn out was in Ivirua where of 76 people on the roll, 74 voted.
As in 2006, Atiu also saw high turn outs for their 2 electorates. In Tengatangi there were 163 on the roll and 159 voted.
Most of the candidates received extra votes but not enough to change the seats. If this trend continues throughout the final counts for the remaining seats, with the exception of Pukapuka, the CIP should retain their 15 seats.
More results should be known by late Wednesday evening.
