Tou Ariki re elected President of House of Ariki

The House of Ariki came together for their Annual General Meeting for 2009 on Wednesday morning at which they selected their President and Vice President. When the Ui Ariki emerged from their deliberations, Travel Tou Ariki emerged victorious as the re-elected President and the new Vice President is Kainuku Kapiriterangi Ariki of Takitumu. Twelve Ariki present were present including Te Tio Kaisara Pakitonga Arikinui of Pukapuka-Nassau, who wanted to be inducted into the House of Ariki before he returned to his home island.
Minister of the House of Ariki is now Hon Kete Ioane who joked during his welcome speech that particular portfolio had changed hands and he hoped it would remain in his hands.
The Minister said he welcomed the offer of the House of Ariki to work in tandem with the Government of whatever colour which was welcome news after the issues that came about after the defection of some Ariki last year. However, that was in the past and now they would look to a bright future including Government promising to consider carefully the proposed changes with regard to increasing the stipend of the Ui Ariki.
