Mangaia Manea Games update

The first organizing meeting for the 2011 Manea Games was held January 21 on Mangaia. The eighth version of the inter-island sporting event, which is held every two years, commences October 1.
Poroa Arokapiti, president of the Mangaia Sports Association, and the director of the Manea Games, called the meeting to set up the initial working programme for the upcoming Games, the first of which were hosted by Mangaia in 1997.
The final competition schedule has yet to be confirmed, as the Cook Islands Sports and National Olympic Committee is still in discussions with the sports associations on the other four participating islands of Akatokamanava, Nukuroa, Enuamanu and Aitutaki.
Arokapiti reported that the sporting venues on Mangaia are in good condition and will need very little work to have them ready for the start of the Manea Games.
