Senior appointments to public service announced

At a press conference at his office on Friday morning, Prime Minister Hon Jim Marurai announced the appointments to several top public service positions.
Jim Gosselin has been appointed Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Immigration. He was formerly a senior official in the Ministry. He is expected to take up the position after June when the contract for his current job ends. Others in contention were Jon Jonassen and former Secretary Mike Mitchell whom the Prime Minister advised is being considered for another role in government.
Ben Ponia has been appointed Secretary for Marine Resources. Ponia was formerly with the Forum Secretariat in Noumea then became a Consultant.
Tere Marsters has been re-appointed as Island Secretary of Palmerston Island.
Lazaro Samson has been appointed Island Secretary of Manihiki.
The PM said the PSC Navy Epati would announce the Island Secretary appointment to Rakahanga next week. He also advised there were no suitable candidates for Island Secretary of Penrhyn.
