Mitchell being considered for High Commissioner to NZ
At a press conference on Friday morning, Prime Minister Hon Jim Marurai advised that Cabinet has submitted Mike Mitchell’s name to the New Zealand government for their consideration and approval as Cook Islands High Commissioner to NZ. The PM advised that Mitchell if confirmed, will serve a term of one year.
Submission made for appointment of QR
At the same press conference of Friday the Prime Minister Hon Jim Marurai advised that Cabinet has agreed to submit to Her Majesty at Buckingham Palace that Sir Frederick Goodwin be reappointed by her Majesty to serve a further term as the Queen’s Representative to the Cook Islands. The Times understands it may be several months before a reply is received from the Palace. Sir Frederick’s term as QR is understood to end in June.
Bar and Niteclub ‘Gold Coin Appeal for Araura’ intiative
Several nightclubs, restaurants and bars have responded to support an initiative to run a “Gold Coin Appeal for Araura.”
From Monday next week for the next 6 days these venue will have an Appeal container at their bar whereby patrons and diners will be encouraged to donate any gold coin they have for this appeal. It is like giving up on a can of coke or stubby drink for this worthy course. In case you go out next week and come across a container at the bar with a label “Gold Coin for Araura Appeal” please feel free to donate any loose coins you may have. Your contribution through these venues will go a long way in supporting needy families in Aitutaki following Cyclone Pat.
This initiative has the support of the Aitutaki Fundraising Committee and money raised by these nightclubs and bar owners will be handed over to them.
