Matavera Village contributes $11,313 to Cyclone Appeal
The village of Matavera has raised the sum of $11,313 toward the Cyclone Pat appeal for the people of Aitutaki.
Ngata Urirau from Matavera presented the end result of their house to house collection within their village. Urirau said the committee are delighted with the results from their tiny village which is due to the generous donations from everyone in their community. These included the business people, such as Matavera Traders and Texmart, the church groups and our English speaking friends.
Their village committee members are Ngata Urirau, Dorothea Ivaiti, Terangi Charlie, Tereora Ngamata (Front), Trainee Unuka, Vaenga Pouara, Mere Charlie and Vaine Maui.
The donations were accepted by Vaitoti Tupa, vice chairman of the official Cyclone Pat committee and by Moana Ioane, general secretary of the Aitutaki Community executive, the umbrella body under which the other committees function.
Ioane was thrilled by the generosity of the donations and said that the Aitutaki Community would like to thank the people of Matavera for what is one of the largest contributions from a village (similar to that of Ngatangiia which also raised just over $11,000). Contributions from Titikaveka have not been finalized yet but word is that their final figure is likely to be even higher.
Tupa and Ioane say “God bless to the people of Matavera for your generous donations”.
