PM’s sacking confirmed

The Prime Minister’s sacking from the Democratic Party is now official.
On Wednesday the Prime Minister Hon Jim Marurai’s membership of the Democratic Party was terminated.
On Friday morning, the Times viewed the letter sent to the PM.
In the one page letter, Demo Party President Makiuti Tongia notifies the PM that his membership of the party was terminated.
He states that the party Executive and Central Committee agreed his membership be cancelled forthwith.
Tongia stated that the sacking of Sir Terepai Maoate on 22 December 2009 was misguided, not in the best interests of the Party and caused a rift between the caucus members.
Tongia also stated that the PM’s decision prejudiced the interests of the party and contravened section 8 of the Democratic Party Constitution.
A copy of letter was also sent to the Chairman of Democratic Party in Ivirua, Mangaia for his information.
In response to the letter, the PM told the Times “It took them long enough.”
He said he had been told at the meeting on 22 December 2009 he would be sacked. He added it came as no surprise.
