Arorangi school Tsunami Drill

On Friday the 13th the students of Arorangi Primary held a tsunami drill.
The drill consisted of students running in an orderly fashion from the school to Smiley Heather’s home about 400 metres inland from the back road.
The drill was to familiarise the students with what to do when a real tsunami alert is raised.
Students assembled on the main school grounds and were told to run inland to higher grounds, past the Raemaru Park.
Charles Carlson, from Emergency Management Cook Islands, was there to help coordinate and see what improvements could be made to the drill.
It took 14 minutes from when the siren alert was sounded for students and teachers to get to the planned high ground assembly area.
Members of the local community helped control traffic as students crossed the road towards Raemaru Park.
Here are some photos from the event.
