Pera to attend Weightlifting’s World Congress in Spain

Sam Pera Snr is to represent the Cook Islands at the Congress of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) to be held in Madrid, Spain at the end of March 2009.
The Congress is held every four years. Tony Hole who is Secretary of the Cook Islands Weightlifting Association attended the last Congress in Turkey. However, on this occasion Hole is unable to attend.
Initially the Cook Islands was a doubtful starter for this Congress due to a funding issue involving CISNOC. However, the IWF asked that the Cook Islands to be represented and is meeting Pera’s travel costs.
Pera departs on 27 March and returns on 7 April. He is looking forward to attending the Congress as it will be a good opportunity for him to meet other representatives.
Pera said at the Congress, election of office bearers will take place and there will be a discussion on new rules.
Pera advised that Sirla is progressing well in training especially with young Sam training alongside him. For Sirla there is the World Weightlifting competition in May which will be held in New Caledonia and after that the Arafura Games in Darwin, Australia. This all leads up to the Mini-Games.
