Skater with Cook Islands connections doing well

Reyon Kay (Center)

Deborah Tamaiva of Arorangi is proud of her 20 year old grandson Reyon Kay who is quickly establishing himself as a top sportsman in Europe in the sport of inline speed skating.
On Friday she departed to watch him compete in events overseas. Kay’s mother Helene is accompanying her.
Previously based in New Zealand, he turned professional last month as a member of the Swiss based World Inline Cup team “Athleticum.”
In his first race for his new team last month in Seoul, Korea Kay finished sixth. Back racing in Switzerland, Kay’s team won a 25km time trial race with Kay himself finishing in the top three.
In August Kay will represent NZ at the World Champs in Columbia. In October he will return to NZ to race in the NZ speed skating season.
Kay is currently in third place on the World Cup standings. He visited Rarotonga for a holiday earlier this year.
