TANGI: MY WAY
Door knocking and listening to people

John Tangi... Thanks to all the
Christian brothers and sisters.

PASTOR JOHN TANGI puts it down to working hard and listening to people.
The newly-elected Member of Parliament is overjoyed by his surprise success in the 26 September general election.
Not only did Assembly of God pastor Tangi win the largest constituency, the Tupapa/Maraerenga seat, he took a Cook Islands Party stronghold.
How did he do it? Tangi said he focused on door knocking throughout his constituency.
He believes as a member of his community he should knock on the doors of all residents in his area and treat everyone equally.
This includes ensuring an equal distribution of benefits, irrespective of political differences, he said.
PRIORITIES
Tangi has his priorities listed so he can bring action to them immediately:
1. Party Hopping Legislation
2. Reform Issues
3. Infrastructure in the community
4. National Issues
Tangi believes if these are prioritised then the Democratic Party will be able to lead the nation with honesty and integrity, supporting Jim Marurai as the Prime Minister.
NIUE
Tangi was born in Niue and raised there up to the age of five. His family then moved to Rarotonga, where he grew up in the Avatiu-Nikao area.
His mother is half Niuean and half Manihikian. His father comes from the Vakatini tribe in Maraerenga.
Tangi is an educated man with an extensive background in public sector management.
He is married to Makiroa Tauira Maka-Kea, from the Rongomatane Ariki tribe in Atiu, and they have three children.
He is the only pastor elected so far.
Tangi said he would like to thank all the people of his village who have put their confidence in him, plus friends from overseas and other races who came to support him on election night.
He also would like to thank all his Christian brothers and sisters who have been praying and fasting for him during election time.
