Apia, here comes Our Beautiful Pacific
Contestants for Friday’s Miss South Pacific pageant have begun arriving in Apia for events leading into the pageant.
The theme of this year’s pageant is “Our Beautiful Pacific.”
Miss Cook Islands, Krystina Kauvai, and reigning Miss South Pacific Dorothea George left Rarotonga International Airport on Friday enroute to Samoa.
Samoa Tourism Authority general manager Lesaisaea Reupena Matafeo told Radio New Zealand International preparations for hosting the regional competition are on track.
Samoa stepped in to host it after New Caledonia was unable to do so as scheduled.
The pageant is being held in Samoa’s brand-new multi-million dollar national aquatic centre, which China has built for next year’s South Pacific Games.
The centre’s spectacular indoor facilities have not been opened to the public in order to keep them in perfect condition for the games.
The pageant is the first major event held inside it.
