PM heads back to Fiji

Just days after completing a successful Forum Leaders’ Meeting in Nadi, the Prime Minister, Jim Marurai is heading back to Fiji again this weekend for another high level gathering.
This time, Marurai will be representing the Cook Islands at the 63rd Meeting of the Council of the University of the South Pacific (USP), as Minister of Education. This meeting will take place in Suva, 1-2 November.
Earlier this week in Fiji, the Prime Minister chalked up his second appearance at a Forum meeting.
There are additional significant issues ahead for the Prime Minister as the USP contends with future directions. Among those items on Marurai’s plate, are the university’s efforts to compete on an international level while trying to grow the institution with sound development initiatives. Unfortunately, there are pressures with rising costs and a greater demand for member countries to increase their commitment to the USP.
