Tiria appointed research boss

Prime Minister Jim Marurai announced the appointment of Caroline Tiria to the position of Research Director.
This came during a media conference on Friday morning.
Her role will include screening of all applications from organisations and persons wishing to carry out research of any nature in the Cook Islands.
The Prime Minister said a new legal requirement meant that a copy of all research undertaken had to given to Government. There would also be a $50 fee payable upon application.
Speaking to the Cook Islands Times after the announcement, Tiria said she was privileged to be selected for the post. She said she had to serve a two-month probationary period first.
One of her first tasks is to establish some procedures and policies and look for additional staff. Tiria was formerly with the Audit Office.
