Wind and solar power options promoted

Tino Vaireka, a local electrician with a passion for renewable energy, is setting out to help power consumers convert from using electricity generated from declining fosil fuels to more environmentally friendly solar power and wind power generators.
He told the Times on Friday that he has had a lot interest expressed in the notice he sent out publicising the solar and wind power generators.
One benefit of switching to these alternatives he says, is the cost saving consumers will make on their costs. While the initial investment may seem high to some, that cost would soon be recovered.
Tino says a New Zealand company will supply and fit the power generators initially but in time with training he will take over.
Tino has been a NZ trained and certified electricial since 1998.
In his message to consumers he says if you feeling burnt with your high monthly power bill, then consider other power supply options. He says Renewable energy is the way
ahead, and a Solar PV system and Wind power are the options for Rarotonga.
Tino has also attached charts showing costing offering 2 options utilising either the Wind power or Solar PV system.
These systems are designed for home and semi-commercial installation. The wind turbine has a max
power output of 2.6kw. A customer that roughly has a monthly power bill between $350 – $550 will
largely benefit from this system. The cost for this system is about $13K with a payback period is about less than 4 years towards such investment. This system is a Grid tie system where excess power is feed back into TAU power grid system.
The Solar PV system is designed for home and semi-commercial use and involves installation of 10 x solar panels achieving a peak power output of 2.2kw. A customer that has monthly power bill between $300 - $500 will again benefit from such system. Cost to install this system is $10K with estimated payback period of about less than 3 years towards an investment. This system is also a Grid tie system where excess power is supplied back into TAU power grid.
