Staying connected
Back in Rarotonga to spend time with her extended family and attend a family member’s wedding, is Rachael Teana Reeves.
Rachael is the daughter of Tony Reeves, the son of Pauline Napa, the daughter of Ina Scott.
Rachael lives in Los Angeles where her parents are based and where she was born. While her father has Cook Islands connections, her mother is American. At the end of May she graduated from the University of California Santa Barbara, majoring in International Relations, a topic which gives her a good platform to enter a career in foreign affairs or as a Diplomat.
Following graduation she spent time as a volunteer teacher for a UK based organization, teaching English in Vietnam, Thailand then Nepal. In those countries she stayed with local families to experience their culture at first hand.
Since graduation she has also worked for three newspapers on feature stories and says she would like to find a job as a journalist. An essay she did some years ago was published in the Herald. However, it’s most likely she will seek a tutoring job on her return to LA. She is keen to do more traveling.
Rachael has been to Rarotonga 10 times. The last time was three years ago. These trips have enabled her to stay connected with her Cook Islands side. This time she arrived on 1 December and she returns to LA on 19 December. She would consider coming to work in the Cook Islands if work was available. She has even applied for a New Zealand passport.
