Workshop for Pacific media women

Pacific women from mainstream, civil society, academia, community and advocacy media covering 13 Pacific nations attended the ‘Media Freedom@Work’ workshop in Brisbane Australia commencing on Thursday, supporting safety, excellence and leadership networks for Pacific Women in media.
The workshop was held as part of the lead-in events to the global commemoration of the UNESCO World Press Freedom Day in 2010, which is being hosted for the first time in the Pacific. The historic occasion also serves as the inaugural meeting of the Pacific WAVE (Women Advancing a Vision of Empowerment) Media Network, who led the activity in partnership with the University of Queensland’s School for Journalism and Communications.
Attending from the Cook Islands are Shona Pitt from the Pitt Media Group and Rachael Reeves reporter from the Cook Islands News. Other Cook Islanders there are Lisa Williams, Ulamila Kurai Wragg and Nanette Woonton.
