Crocombe’s contract not renewed

Sam Crocombe’s tenure as Chairman of the Ports Authority will not be renewed by the Cook Islands Investment Corporation Board.
On Wednesday the Herald had learnt that Crocombe’s position had been discussed by Cabinet on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning the DPM’s office advised the Herald that Crocombe’s warrant had expired two months ago and it was up to the CIIC Board whether or not it would be renewed. CIIC Chairman Tapi Taio could not be contacted as he is overseas. Later on Wednesday Crocombe confirmed he was waiting for confirmation.
On Thursday morning he advised the Times that it was not unusual for contracts to lapse for a few months before being renewed. His contract was a yearly one.
Later that morning he was contacted by Ports Authority CEO Bim Tou to say a letter had arrived. At the Ports Authority office Crocombe learnt of the letter’s contents. His tenure was terminated effective as of Thursday. The letter was signed by CIIC Board members Lee Harmon and Teava Iro.
It is not known who will replace Crocombe as Chairman.
Since becoming Chairman Crocombe has been a strong advocate and campaigner for improved ports facilities.
