Performance of major markets
The main features for the month of April 2010 are as follows:
• New Zealand made up 57.1%of the market share for the month of April 2010 and 47.5.1% for the YTD Jan-Apr. The total visitor arrivals from New Zealand for the month were 4541 compared to 4402 for the same period last year, a decrease of 3%. The annualized arrivals from New Zealand showed an increase of 1% but a 5% decrease for the YTD Jan – Apr arrivals.
• Europe/UK share of visitor arrivals for the month of April was 14% and 16% for the YTD Jan – Apr arrivals. The total visitor arrivals from Europe/UK for the month were 728 compared to 942 for April of last year, a decrease of 22.7%. There were also decreases of 12% in the annualized arrivals and 21% in the YTD arrivals compared to the same period last year. • UK made up 34% of the arrivals from Europe with 250 visitors. It was down 42% compared to the 433 visitors from April 2009. It had a 6% share of the total arrivals for the month and 7% for the YTD Jan to Apr arrivals.
• Australia share of visitor arrivals was 13% for the month, 13% for the annualized and 14% for the YTD Jan to Apr arrivals. It had a total of 1042 arrivals compared to 977 for the same period last year, an increase of 7%. The annualized arrivals from Australia were also up 29.2% and the YTD Jan to Apr was 10.6% up compared to the same periods of last year.
• USA’s share of visitor arrivals for the month of April 2010 was 3% the annualized was 4% and the YTD 5%. It had a total of 247 arrivals compared to 271 for the same period last year a decrease of 8.9%. The annualized figures showed an increase of 20% and the YTD Jan – Apr showed a 2% increase compare to the same periods last year.
• Canada made up 2% of the visitor arrivals with 150 visitors this month compared to 143 in April 2009 an increase of 5%. The annualized arrivals increased by 20% and the YTD Jan to Apr arrivals increase by 19% compared to the same periods last year.
The market share for VFR (Cook Islanders Living Overseas) was 9% for the month or 709 arrivals. As for the rest of the visitors for this month, French Polynesia/Tahiti had 58, Other Pacific Islands had 38 Asia had 37 and 18 from other parts of the world.
