Questions over Beer’s nomination

The Times has learnt that James Beer who won the Democratic Party nomination run off with Angelene Tuara to contest the Murienua seat in the election, is concerned at queries arising over his nomination.
Following the run off technical issues were raised over Beer’s nomination.
A letter was sent to Beer on Thursday regarding the queries and there is to be a meeting of the Murienua Committee on Saturday to discuss them.
Party President Sean Willis advised the Times on Friday afternoon if the Murienua Committee is unable to resolve the matter it will be dealt with by Disputes Committee in accordance with the Constitution.
If Beer’s nomination is found invalid, Tuara will become the candidate.
Information reaching the Times is that when the run off was held some 132 votes in favour of Beer were withdrawn by scrutineers Tere Taio and Fred Hosking. Willis said his information was that some 32 votes were disallowed due to irregularities over the issuing of membership cards at the polling place.
