Roving dogs killing off goats

Up to 20 goats have been mauled and killed by roving dogs in Titikaveka, over the past few weeks. One local farmer has lost nearly all his herd and is now down to the last two. The farmer, John Maoate, says he lost several goats a few years ago and those that survived the attacks back then have now been killed, he told the Pitt Media Group.
About a week ago, he lost a dozen to a pack of dogs – eight of them kid goats and four adults. Seven dogs had been sighted but when he had tried to secure the animals by moving them to a safe place, the pack caught up with the herd and attacked. The goats had already been subject to a previous attack, and received neck injuries. Maoate said he planned to shoot the killer dogs but they had already done the damage.
Maoate says his wife informed the police but they had so far not heard anything. The Pitt Media Group contacted the dog control officer immediately but was told that the matter had not yet been referred to him. Police said they would follow up the complaint with Maoate.
