Carter to start in August

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, the Hon Tom Marsters, welcomes the announcement by the New Zealand Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Murray McCully, that the next New Zealand High Commissioner to the Cook Islands will be Mr John Carter, the member of Parliament for Northland and Civil Defence Minister.
“The Cook Islands and New Zealand have long enjoyed a close relationship and this Government looks to strengthen that relationship in the months and years ahead,” said Mr Marsters. “Through valuable and much appreciated assistance, and with the understanding and support of New Zealand, the Cook Islands has taken significant steps not only in realising its sustainable development objectives but also playing a greater role in its own right as a sovereign and independent State on the international stage. Mr Carter has long experience of the Cook Islands and we are confident that, with his appointment, the unique relationship between our two countries will mature significantly to the benefit of both the Cook Islands and New Zealand.”
It is expected that Mr Carter will take up his appointment in August, replacing Ms Linda Te Puni, the current New Zealand High Commissioner to the Cook Islands.
