Heather to visit Mitiaro
Minister of Infrastructure and Planning Hon Teariki Heather is to visit Mitiaro next Friday with two officials namely motor mechanics.
Heather told the Times on Friday morning the purpose of the trip is to look at infrastructure in Mitiaro and for the mechanics to examine and see if the heavy machinery (front end loaders) can be brought back into service. The machines had not operated for some time but he is confident the mechanics can get them going again.
Heather said it was important to restore the machinery in light of the harbour project and other work coming on stream. To replace a front end loader would cost $140,000.
He will return to Rarotonga on the following Monday and other trips are planned to Mangaia and Mauke followed by trips to the northern group.
