Kuki Cel mobile phone network to run tests, trial
William Framhein of Mervin Communications informed the Times on Friday morning that tests and trialing of Kuki Cel’s mobile phone network will commence shortly.
During the testing period, free credits will be granted to a limited number of persons to participate in the test.
Following the test, a full on trial will commence. The test and the trial will be over a six month period and the area of coverage will be between the base at Maraerenga and the airport.
Framhein said those involved in the test and trail will notice an improvement in the quality of the sound on local mobile to mobile calls with very little delay time. They will be able to use existing cell phones and sim cards.
Framhein said Kuki Cel clients will not be able to direct dial any Telecom CI numbers. If they wish to, they will need to make a toll call. He said there are no interconnection arrangements with Telecom CI as yet.
He said Minister Mark Brown had given a verbal consent to the test and trial and he is awaiting the Minister’s written consent.
The trial will only involve pre-pay.
