PM not amused: Public service bosses fail to show up

The Prime Minister took time out from Parliament today to address the Heads of Ministries and CEOs of Crown Agencies at a workshop session on the current fucntional review of the public service. But Henry Puna wasn’t particularly happy with what he saw at the venue - too many empty seats! About a dozen bosses of departments didn’t show up for today’s meeting. And at least a further eight more were late arriving - after the PM!
The meeting was acknowledged for its importance as a result of the future impacts on the public service and although the PM was half-joking about the absentees, there was a seriousness to his message. The workshop was an opportunity for the heads of departments to start thinking about the review processes, which will be examining what they do and how they do it. The aim of this project is to better define the public service so that it performs the core functions it is required to, in an efficient manner.
