Miracle plant to feature at next Trade Days

Recently Hugh Graham reported he was growing the Moringa plant on Mauke. Now he provides this update for readers on what is fast becoming known around the world as the miracle plant.
“I have already started harvesting the leaves of the moringa since last last year and have been giving small quantities of the leaves to the Boer goats that I brought over from NZ for the breeding programme. While I would love to feed them at least 2-3 kgs of the leaves each, I cannot produce enough at this stage. The other reason is that I have also been harvesting the leaves and adding it to my plates of food that I sell every Friday here on Mauke! I add the leaves to boneless chicken and cook it in a fresh coconut cream sauce with a few herbs and spices and served on a bed of rice.
I have also been sending a few packets to Rarotonga both fresh and dried for sale to friends at this stage, as I know that I cannot meet the demand if I go to the shops at this stage.
Friday last week I received an extra 3,000 moringa oleifera seeds which we have started to plant. This should be ready for harvesting as early as November this year. I am excited that Agriculture Minister Hon Nandi Glassie will go ahead with the ‘Te One Kura’ project before the end of this year.
Anyway as mentioned I have been saving a lot of the moringa for the Trade Days to be held at the National Auditorium on 1 - 3 August this year. I am trying to go local as much as possible and have tried to design my menu around the ‘Go Local’ theme.
My stall is called ‘Uniquely Hughs’ and I will be selling, moa kainga (local chicken) with moringa in coconut cream (Day 1); goat meat with moringa in coconut cream(Day 2), hoping for pork with moringa (Day 3).... plus my seafood fritters with moringa, and moringa tea... on all 3 days.
While I have yet to make a wider public statement, I am hoping to be able to state that 85% of all my ingredients is locally grown or produced.
