The good juice
On Thursday morning a class of Nukutere year 10 students spent time with Pastor Ngarima George learning about traditional medicine.
At George’s hut at Punanga Nui Market, the students saw how two medicinal drinks were prepared from local fruits and also got the opportunity to taste them.
The first drink was the juice from green Nita leaves including the stalks. This was a lighter, pale yellow appearing drink. The other was made from the juice of green Nitas, carrots and oranges. This was a thicker, dark yellow juice. George had used a food processor to create the juices.
All students, including their teacher Tuwanga Mataora, drank samples.
George said he recommended the juices for treating various ailments including arthritis.
Mataora said the visit to see the preparation of traditional medicines was part of the student’s culture programme which included sessions on traditional song, dance. -Charles Pitt
