Youth Market a success!

Last night, people of all ages crowded together down at the Punanga Nui Market, with intentions of buying food from the vendors, but were actually treated to more. The entertainment was the main attraction of the night, with our very own Maine Purotu and Miss South Pacific representative, Uirangi Bishop, putting on a show for the people. Crowds of people had gathered in the heart of the market to watch.
The event began at 6 o’clock sharp, the vendors prepared for the oncoming crowds. The smell of food already lingering in the air and the atmosphere charged with excitement. Even though the majority of the vendors were older people, there was a handful of brave youth that gave it a try. People stormed to the stalls without the slightest hesitation. There was a fair amount of tourists who attended as well, which is a good indication of the popularity of the event.
“This is a great opportunity for us to show the public what we have got to offer, “Says one of the vendors. “We benefit from this as well, and earn profit from this night. It also gives our youth a taste of what it’s like being an entrepreneur.” A variety of things were on sale that night, everything from good food to toys and glowlights.
Sting-A-Ray, a group taking part in the senior Enterprise course at Tereora College, was selling their wares (desserts and the like) to the public. The sales actually peaked and the group had a good head start. Well done to those students who participated in the event.
The public were happy with how it turned out and the vendors were pleased with the profits they made on the night. All and all, the night was a success.
