EIA Report soon for Market extension
On Friday Hon Teariki Heather, Minister of Infrastructure and Planning, and his associates met to discuss solutions to the Ruatonga outlet and work on dealing with its drainage which causes blockage problems and flooding for the greater Tutakimoa area. Heather suggest that government is seriously looking at addressing the problem and plans to extended the culvert out into the lagoon as plans for the area will included being covered with the fill from the Harbor Project. In preparation of next week’s Environment Impact Assessment (EIA), the assessment for the area of the lagoon side of the Punanga Nui, Market, the government have agreed for all fill from the Avatiu Harbor project to be deposited for the reformation of this area and benefits of this will include improved parking, drainage system and improvement for both vendors and the public says Heather. With dredging on the Avatiu Harbor site set to begin in the first week of May Heather says that public can expect works to the Ruatonga outlet to begin by the end of March and urges public for assistance and support of the coming EIA report to ensure the project moves at a productive pace.
