Rennie at the Friday Market

It is a real treat to see at the Takuvaine market on Friday, local designer Rennie Nooroa Peyroux and his original merchandise.
Peyroux is one of the Cook Islands most prolific, outstanding and most respected artists. He has been an entrepreneur for over 30 years, designing and making clothing and pareau’s for tourist and locals. “I create all my designs and print them myself,” Peyroux told the Times.
Twenty years ago, Peyroux was designing and printing products for the T-shirt factory, but now he just works from home.
“I’ve been selling at the Takuvaine market since the beginning, and I sell a display at Nanave’s and at the Punanga Nui Market every Saturday morning,” said Peyroux.
Peyroux has his own printing set up at home which allows him to work at a more leisurely pace.
“I have prints for designs I’ve created over the years, but I do get requests to make new ones. I had an order from a client not long ago to create the groom and groomsmen’s shirts for a wedding ( Christina Kauvai’s), and I’ve just finished it, ” said Peyroux
Peyroux sells his pareu’s at the market for a price of $30. “I do get a lot of business from tourists, so it’s always great to have them around,” says Peyroux laughing.
Rennie say’s that anyone looking to place an order with him can contact him from the Nanave, which is situated near the Club Bana at the Banana Court.
