CITV’s new sport anchor
Filling in the 8’oclcok sports slot for CITV is new anchor Jolyn Iro, who with her brings a background based in shot put representing the Cook Islands in the recent South Pacific Games for the under 19’s Shot Put 2011. Having a keen eye for media and communications the young new sports presenter and recent Tereora College graduate says she took part in the media studies programme while there. Atiu Officer named
Atiu Island celebrates the newly established Tourism Office housing the Atiu Visitors Centre, and the upgraded Atiu Airport terminal. The office will provide information, displays of locally made arts and crafts and a conference training room where Cook Islands Tourism Corporation will provide tourism training for the local people. The opening and blessing for both upgraded premises is planned to be held on Monday 27 February and special guests from within the Tourism Industry and Government will be visiting Atiu for the formal occasion.
Ngametua Mokoroa, the newly appointed Destination Atiu Officer, previously of Bank of the Cook Islands Atiu, is looking forward to the challenge of her new role. Having already welcomed her first editor & photographer from Vanity Fair Magazine, London, she is to provide visitor information services, marketing, and destination development assistance. She is out going, warm hearted with a quick ready smile making visitors feel welcome and Cook Island Tourism will be providing ongoing training and assistance for her.
Cook Islands Tourism strategy - stage one has been completed with the appointment of the Destination Atiu Officer, the renovation and upgrade of the Airport Terminal and the Visitors Information Centre. This year’s strategy – stage two, is to upgrade beach and cave access by improving tracks and trails without damaging the overall environment and to improve beach rest shelters, historical sites and island wide signage and interpretation.

Super Fund exceeds $50m
The Cook Islands National Superannuation Fund with 6615 registered members, has now exceeded $50 million in managed funds.
The Cook Islands National Superannuation Fund has slowly grown since 2001 when it managed $67,169.16 for just 463 members through an investment portfolio managed by Frank Russell Investments in New Zealand.
The Fund’s CEO, Anne Herman-Fua, commends all employers and members who have complied and contributed to the Fund as well as all staff, trustees and Board members who have assisted in growing the Fund to this point. “It is a significant milestone as we work towards our vision of wealth creation for our nation and to provide financial security for the people of the Cook Islands”.
While the majority of the Fund’s expenses continue to be subsidised by Government, the Fund belongs entirely to its members. Herman-Fua states that “As the Fund continues to grow, we will remain committed to optimising the long term returns to our members. We are excited at the Fund’s growth and want Members to be excited about the investment they are making into their own retirement also”.
Since its inception the Fund has paid out over $3.8 million in member benefits. 2011 member statements are due for delivery before 30 June 2012 and members are encouraged to check the status of their superannuation accounts on Ph: 25515 during business hours.

Date set for Miss Cook Islands 2012
Dates for this year Miss Cook Islands Pageant has been set, June 7th marks the vivid event and MCIPA encourage applicants to enter this year’s competition. MCIPA have also invited guest such as Brother Love to participate in the coming music concert set for March 15 to raise funds for this year’s pageant, a portion of the funds from the benefit concert will be donated on behalf of MCIPA to suicide awareness as the focus for this year’s pageant is youth issues. Current Miss Cook Islands 2011 Engara Gosselin says it’s a great chance to get involved and offers plenty of opportunity for participants as Gosselin departs Rarotonga for Australia today to occupy the role of General Manager for Pearl Fiji.- Maria Tanner
