Takitumu School Road signs

On Friday Takitumu Primary School celebrated the opening of their school crossing road signs. School Principal Engia Pate, said “The idea for the road safety design started back in 2009 where we noticed a large number of near misses with the students and oncoming vehicles.” Ever since then Mrs Pate had formed the idea of having a school crossing for the main road. Mrs Pate approached Nga Jessie the Chairman of the project during election time and asked if he could possibly help out with the funding if the Cook Islands Party won the election. The road safety signs have been funded and brought over from New Zealand by Matavera MP Kiriau Turepu and Nga Jessie, while the safety vests and rain jackets have been sponsored by Cook Islands Police. Principal Mrs Pate says she is very excited and happy that the school has finally achieved one of their projects. “We have a lot of projects to do, but this was the most important one, the kids are definitely looking forward to using it. It is a relief to know that my kids have a safe way to cross the road to get in and out of school.” Mrs Pate decided to celebrate the opening by putting on lunch for the whole school and invited guests.
