A Passion for Paddling

Ever thought about giving paddling a go? Well, Ngakau Toa Vaka (NTV) Canoeing Club wants you!
This Saturday 17 March, Muri Beach will be a hive of activity. NTV are hosting an ‘Open Day’ and all are welcome. The day is an opportunity for interested paddlers of all ages to come down and try out the sport in a fun, friendly and safe environment. NTV also invites experienced paddlers who might be considering returning to the sport to come down and participate. The day begins at 2pm and will be a family-friendly picnic day with fun races, paddling sessions and prizes up for grabs too! The event will be at the Ngatangiia Sports Field end of Muri Beach.
But if you still need a reason to come down, here is what real paddlers from NTV had to say about their passion for Oe Vaka...
“I love the fact that this is a traditional Polynesian sport and our playing field is the ocean! It’s never the same. It challenges your mind and pushes your body to the extreme limits. Why do I love NTV? Simple – because of its warrior spirit!!” – Allister Webb
“I love it because it’s peaceful out in the ocean and I can get some thinking going on in my head – like Chess..! NTV is fun!” – Tungane Manuel
“I think paddling is really the only sport that offers all the challenges without the injuries that other sports have. It is a sport that anyone can do and at any level. I can have all my friends and family enjoying the experience together and I feel that my health and mental wellbeing is a result of my passion. I love the club because it is a place where all my friends and family can share their experiences in a healthy environment. What better way to live my life!” – Fletcher Melvin
“NTV RULES!!!” – Tara Cumming
“NTV is a family. The Club is full of great paddlers all passionate about paddling – this is why I am with NTV! Paddling is a great way to get fit, have fun and meet new friends who are down to earth. NTV members encourage each other to paddle hard and have a good time!” – Shahram Saboori
